Show045: Interview with Justin D. Jacobson

Here’s the second interview from Gen Con. I think there’s about Five more. This is with Justin D. Jacobson from Blue Devil Games, and One Bad Egg, and the creator of the well written Bullseye ashcan. You’ll likely hear me talking about Bullseye in Janurary via… well… via something secret.

In this show, we talk about licenses, what they are, and why you might want to use them. I find this interview interesting looking back as it is from before the public unveiling of One Bad Egg, which is something Blue Devil Games, and Evil Hat Productions, put together to sell 4th edition D+D products and insulate their main products from the GSL. Definitely some interesting stuff here. However we don’t just discuss the GSL, but the OGL, the d20 SRD, Creative Commons, The Bullseye License, and the Amagi License.

This is another one where I was not adequately prepared, so you’ve been warned. Thanks to Justin for going above and beyond to make this happen.

  1. [...] At Gen Con, I sat down with Clyde Roher of Theory from the Closet and talked about game licenses, including the GSL from Wizards. If you are at all interested in such things, you should have a listen. [...]

Hey Clyde, welcome back to the internets. :) Does this mean we can look forward to your future shows on a semi-regular schedule? Listening to the show now.

  3. Great getting a new episode from you, Clyde, and especially when it’s one as interesting as this one was. Nailing Justin down to talk about all these licenses was brilliant, and though not legal advice, I like how it serves as a general introduction to the topic.

Getting a mention by name and a reference to the mecha product I did tied-in to Dawning Star was also sweet. :-)

Looking forward to more episodes from you, dude.

I missed you Clyde, glad to hear a new show!

  5. Hey Tim,

Likely. I’ll talk more about what’s up on the January 1st show.

    Hey Johnstone,

    Thanks. I’ll have more soon.

    Hey Daniel,

I can’t see your link although I do get the “finger” when I hover over the empty space… I’ll see if I can fix that. Also in regards to the quality of the show as an opener into licenses… it’s really Justin’s work, so he deserves the props. He even had his own outline.

  6. Yay! I arez happee ^_^

*cough*… ahem… that is to say, glad to hear you again, man.

  7. Having now listened to this, I want to say that even though lots of theory-oriented casts claim to offer practical information; this one actually does.
