So I’ve been thinking that after GNS/The Big Model I’ll be looking at trying to go through and set up a series for Mo Turkington’s Push/Pull theory. We’ve still got like 20 more episodes of The Big Model so it won’t be soon, but it will be happening.
I bought some new equipment. It is a home studio unit, so I should be able to get Windows off the old box I was using for recording, and Linux installed on it so I can actually trust it to touch the internet… that or make a MythTV box.
Anyway… you don’t care about any of that. What’s important is this should kill all the strange word warbling. From my goofing around with the unit so far it sounds much better. I also bought a pop guard so that should help with the plosives, which will let me boost the sound levels, since I won’t have to turn my recording so low to avoid clipping. If you don’t understand, simply put… better sound coming soon.
There is a part of show004 where I talk about Ron Edwards copyright regarding kickers. I did not adequately express that the part about asking permission to use the terms was likely about someone wanting to use the terms and ideas verbatim in their game.
I also didn’t explain Kickers and Bangs as much as I’d like. There will be more about bangs in Show005: Flags and Bangs likely hitting the net Monday or Tuesday.
This is a work in progress. I got a thought a while back when I was working on a game I back-burnered called Outside. I thought, “Clyde what exactly do I need in a roleplaying game?”
The other day I’m looking through my mess I call an apartment for all the notebooks I have that have like 5 pages of writing. I found what I wanted for one of the many side projects I’m goofing with as I try to think deep thoughts about my main game. Anyway I found this Outline.
What do I need to add, what have I put that sucks, and what might it be good for? I’m thinking it’s good for thinking about all the pieces you need to think about after you have a good idea of your game design goals. But hey, what do I know.
Here’s a picture I made to help show what I was talking about in show001. You can tell I’m no Art student.

Here’s a visual aid for show001 to help understand how I see Shared Imaginary Space or S.I.S:

It’s released under the Creative Commons Attribution Share Alike License as indicated over to the right under license. So feel free to spread it around, just… you know– give me some credit, and leave it open.
I’ve been checking my feedburner account for a couple days now and came across something interesting.
First let’s explain what feedburner is. Feedburner is a website that you join and point an RSS feed at. Then Feedburner basically mimics that RSS feed, and lets you do additional modification to their copy magically. This means you don’t have to learn the XML tags for RSS. I lose some geek cred by admitting this is my reason for using it, but whatever, I just wanted to get going fast. Back to the story. I was looking at this:

So as you can see the number is two. I find that deliciously funny but it was even better when I read the data. Go look for yourself… no really. I’ll wait. It’s here:
I haven’t submitted the show to ITunes, I want to get the second show done. Itunes examines your shows quality and I’m worried show001 won’t cut it. Show002 will though. In the mean time you may not want to wait, or you might use a podcatcher other than ITunes. If you don’t know what I’m talking about there will be more instructions below.
If you use ITunes:
- Launch iTunes.
- In the Advanced menu, select Subscribe to Podcast.
- Type – http://feeds.feedburner.com/theoryfromthecloset into the text box
- Rock on!
If you use another podcatcher (like me- hello Penguin lovers):
- You can look over to the right under subscribe to get to the feed.
- Copy that link and paste it to the appropriate part of your podcatcher software, or save time with this one: http://feeds.feedburner.com/theoryfromthecloset
- Rock on!
I’m curious.
Was the crackling too much? Was it understandable? How were my examples? Could you follow along? If this was your first time encountering some of these ideas did you learn anything? Is my lisp, um’s, so’s and ok’s, irritating? I didn’t realize I was doing them until I could hear myself outside of my head. I’m wondering if I need to go back to speech therapy. *grins*
Thanks for listening.
