Creative agenda is a lot more complicated than the other theory shows I’ve done. It’s going to be an additional day.
Going to be a day late on Show 50
February 10th, 2009Show049: Interview with John Wick
February 1st, 2009Show049: Interview with John Wick
This is an interview I did with John Wick at Gen Con 2008. We talk about his new game, Houses of the Blooded, Legend of the Five Rings, torture-porn, and some of his thoughts about game design, and actual play.
I couldn’t get the volume correct on this one with out adding aliens and spaceships, so it may be a bit quiet. We also have vacuum cleaners, and the very efficient hotel staff once again. Someday I’ll learn they make signs to prevent that.
Show048: Techniques and Ephemera
January 26th, 2009Show048: Techniques and Ephemera
This show we tackle the last two layers of the Big Model, Techniques and Ephemera. If you need a review the last layer was Exploration, and before that was Social Contract. Not much else to say.
Show046: State of the Podcast 2
January 15th, 2009Show046: State of the Podcast 2
Another year down. Here’s the state of the podcast for this year. I’ve finally decided to halfway pursue turning podcasting into a job, so you’ll likely be seeing changes soon, as I gather the money I need for more hosting, possibly professional software, and gain knowledge. I’m not sure what else to say, except expect… holy crap those two words are beautiful together… anyway… except expect a Ron Edwards interview on Monday the 19th and a theory episode on Monday the 26th.

Installed Disqus
January 15th, 2009I installed Disqus for the site today. Disqus turns the comments into something a little more like a forum, but not quite. Think of it as working somewhat like Vincent’s anyway blog, but with the ability to track what the users say, across other Disqus enabled blogs. It’s fairly easy to start an account, you can use a sign-in you likely already have, if you are like me and get frustrated by having to record another password.
Show045: Interview with Justin D. Jacobson
November 14th, 2008Show045: Interview with Justin D. Jacobson
Here’s the second interview from Gen Con. I think there’s about Five more. This is with Justin D. Jacobson from Blue Devil Games, and One Bad Egg, and the creator of the well written Bullseye ashcan. You’ll likely hear me talking about Bullseye in Janurary via… well… via something secret.
In this show, we talk about licenses, what they are, and why you might want to use them. I find this interview interesting looking back as it is from before the public unveiling of One Bad Egg, which is something Blue Devil Games, and Evil Hat Productions, put together to sell 4th edition D+D products and insulate their main products from the GSL. Definitely some interesting stuff here. However we don’t just discuss the GSL, but the OGL, the d20 SRD, Creative Commons, The Bullseye License, and the Amagi License.
This is another one where I was not adequately prepared, so you’ve been warned. Thanks to Justin for going above and beyond to make this happen.
Show044: Interview with Mike Mearls
August 19th, 2008Show044: Interview with Mike Mearls
This is the first interview coming out of Gen Con ’08. I’ve wanted to talk to Mike for a bit, but didn’t catch him at Origins. Fortunately I caught him at Gen Con. I questioned him about Dungeons and Dragons 4th Edition’s design principles. It was a really interesting interview, and I think gives a good perspective of what’s going on under the hood.
I have to thank Rob Donoghue for giving me many interesting questions for this interview. He posts quite often about 4th Edition, on his blog.
Show043: Interview with Andrea Sfiligoi
August 5th, 2008Show043: Interview with Andrea Sfiligoi
This is the last of my Origins interviews. This interview is with Andrea Sfiligoi, creator of Song of Blades and Heroes, which was an Origins award nominee. It came about due to Paul Czege’s sharp eye as we were looking at the Origins awards nominees. Paul pointed out that one of the minatures games didn’t seem to have a publisher, just an author. We both thought it was cool to see an Indie minature game designer and I decided to see if we could hunt Andrea down and see if he was at Origins. Half an hour later as I talked with different Origins folks we found out he was there and set up this interview.
I really enjoyed talking with Andrea… after the end of this recording I think we spent a good 3 hours or more talking about Italy, America, Politics, and Metaphysics.
Show042: Interview with Thor Olavsrud
July 22nd, 2008Show042: Interview with Thor Olavsrud
This is another interview recorded at Origins. I talk to Thor Olavsrud about editing again, but this time he’s not in a spaceship. It’s amazing to me right now how much I have learned since last year via the method know as the hard way. Anyway, We cover even more material than last year by adding at least another half an hour.
Books Thor mentions:
- Chicago Manual of Style
- A.P. Stylebook
- Words into Type
- Werriam Webster Collegiate Dictionary
- The Elements of Style Illustrated
- Eats, Shoots & Leaves: Why, Commas Really Do Make a Difference!
